While fixing a Pi-hole pinned at 100% CPU, I found that one host, my own monitoring stack, was generating 59% of all DNS queries. A small dnsmasq cache cut that by three quarters, but only after I fixed the two settings that were stopping it from caching anything.
A Prometheus alert said my Pi-hole was pinned at 100% CPU. The load average was 19.72 on a one-core container. The fix was trivial, but finding the right size took two tries.
